본 연구에서는 우리나라 중고등학생의 창의성 발달 경향을 분석하기 위하여 전국 시도별로 편의 표집을 통해 중학교 1학년부터 고등학교 3학년에 재학 중인 2,561명의 창의성을 측정하고 학년별 차이를 분석하였다. 그 결과 창의성 하위 요인들 간에는 모두 통계적으로 유의한 상관이 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 중고등학생들의 종합 창의성은 창의적 능력 총점(r=.610)보다는 창의적 성격 총점(r=.937)과 더 높은 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 창의적 능력은 하위 요인 중 정교성 요인(r=.728)과 창의적 성격은 하위 요인 중 문제해결적 리더십 요인(r=.830)과 가장 높은 상관을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 창의적 능력 총점은 중학교 시기에는 학년이 올라감에 따라 낮아져서 중학교 3학년에 이르러 최저점이 되었다가 고등학교 2학년 때 정점에 이르는 것으로 나타났다. 영역별 창의성을 분석한 결과 도형 창의성의 경우 고등학교 1, 2학년의 도형 창의성이 중학교 1, 2, 3학년에 비하여 통계적으로 유의하게 높았다. 창의적 성격 총점의 경우 중학교 3학년 때까지 계속 낮아지다가 고등학교 1학년 때 상승하여 정점에 이르며, 고등학교 2학년 때 최저점에 이르는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로, 창의적 능력 총점과 창의적 성격 총점을 합하여 산출한 종합 창의성 점수는 중학교 3학년이 가장 낮고, 고등학교 1학년이 가장 높았지만, 중고등학교 학년 간의 차이는 통계적으로는 유의하지 않은 것으로 밝혀졌다.
The developmental trends of creativity remain disputed in the area of education and psychology. Some studies showed an increment of creativity with age, other studies showed a decrement of creativity. Moreover, some studies indicate slumps and peaks of creativity with age. Even though developmental trends of creativity have been addressed in several studies, it is unclear which view has stronger support. Additionally, previous researches have suggested that the creativity of students was influenced by social and cultural climates. Therefore, we investigated the developmental trends of creative thinking ability and creative personality in Korean secondary students, from 7th to 12th grades, using the creativity test inventory which was developed by the authors considered Korean cultures. Approximately 2,561 participants were selected all over the Korea. Developmental trends by grades were analyzed and the results of this study were as follows. First, creative abilities had high correlation with elaboration factor(r=.728) and creative personalities had high correlation with problem leadership factor(r=.830). Second, secondary school students' creative abilities decreased from 7th to 9th grade and increased from 10th grade and peaked at grade 11th. Also, creative personalities decreased as the grade increased until 9th grade and increased from 10th grade. The total score of creativity was the lowest at 9th grade and the highest at 11th grade. Finally, the high school(10th to 12th) students' drawing creativity was higher than that of the middle school students.
