본 연구에서는 감사일지쓰기가 초등학생의 행복감에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 감사일지쓰기 프로그램 효과를 검증하기 위한 유사 실험연구를 수행하였다. 서울 시내 한 초등학교에서 2개 학급을 선정하여 각각 실험집단(31명)과 비교집단(29명)으로 배정하고 감사성향과 행복감에 대한 사전검사를 실시한 후, 4주간 매일 아침 자습시간 10분 동안 감사일지를 쓰게 한 실험집단과 그렇지 않은 비교집단의 감사성향과 행복감을 사후검사 결과와 비교하였다. 감사일지쓰기가 초등학생의 감사성향과 행복감 증진에 영향을 미칠 것이라는 연구가설을 검증하기 위해 감사성향 척도와 자존감, 낙관주의, 친구관계, 가정환경의 하위요인들로 구성된 행복감 검사를 사용하였다. 실험집단과 비교집단의 사전 검사 점수와 사후검사 점수를 분석한 결과, 감사일지쓰기를 한 실험집단은 사전 감사성향과 행복감 전체와 하위요인 점수들이 사후검사에서 유의미하게 향상된 것을 확인하였다. 반면에 비교집단은 사전검사와 사후검사 점수의 변화가 없었다. 실험집단의 사후 소감문을 분석한 결과에서도 감사일지쓰기를 통해 감사대상이 많아지고 긍정적 정서경험의 향상을 확인할 수 있었다. 감사일지쓰기 프로그램의 긍정적 효과를 바람직한 인성교육에 대한 시사점을 중심으로 논의하였다.
In this quasi-experimental study, we adopted writing practice of a daily log of gratitude to test two hypotheses: A daily writing of a gratitude log will have positive effects on the grateful disposition and on the feelings of happiness of elementary students. Two 4th grade classes from an elementary school were selected to serve as an experimental and a comparison group(31 and 29 students each). Prior to the experimental sessions, students in both groups completed a pretest which contained a gratitude questionnaire and a happiness inventory that had four sub-factors of happiness, namely, self-esteem, optimism, peer relationship, and perception of home environment. After a 4-week implementation period, both groups completed the same scales as posttest. The experimental group students wrote two blessings everyday during 10-minute morning sessions. The results revealed a strong support for both hypotheses, in that the experimental group showed great increase in the grateful disposition and in the reported feelings of happiness. The results were discussed in relations to the functional effectiveness of gratitude on the students’ happiness. In addition, some practical implications to the educational settings were discussed.
