본 논문은 중등 교육실습의 노정된 여러 문제들을 해결하고 바람직한 교육실습 프로그램을 마련하기 위해서는 우선 현재 중등 교육실습이 현장에서 실제로 어떻게 이루어지고 있는지를 이해하는 것이 필수적이라는 인식에 따라 중등교사 양성을 위한 교육실습이 이루어지는 일반적인 과정 자체를 혼합 연구방법(mixed methods)을 활용하여 심층적으로 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 A대학의 사범대학 교육 실습생 중 5명이 질적 연구 부분으로 교육실습 자기보고서와 심층 면접에 참여하였으며, 62명이 양적 연구 부분인 설문조사에 참여하였다. 질적 자료는 주제분석법을 통해, 양적 자료는 빈도분석을 통해 분석되었다. 연구 결과로 교육실습의 과정은 크게 연수, 수업 참관, 수업 실습, 학생 지도, 학교 행사 참여의 다섯 가지 활동으로 범주화 될 수 있었으며, 현장에서 각각의 범주별로 어떻게 실습이 진행되는지를 좀 더 구체적이고 종합적으로 이해할 수 있었다. 이를 토대로 본 연구는 첫째, 연수의 비중을 줄일 뿐 아니라 연수가 실질적인 관찰 실습이 될 수 있도록 질을 높일 것, 둘째, 수업 참관에서 타 과목 참관 비율의 상한선을 규정할 것, 수업 실습의 분량을 적절히 조절하고 수업 실습에 대한 실질적인 평가 과정을 거칠 것, 넷째, 학생 지도 활동에서 교생을 학교의 필요에 의한 보조 인력으로 활용하는 일이 없을 것, 다섯째, 학교 행사 참여 시 교생이 수행하는 업무가 교사 역량과 관련이 있는지 검토할 것을 제안하였고, 장기적으로는 공통적인 교육실습 매뉴얼을 개발하고 보급하는 것이 필요하다고 보았다.
In order to deal with several issues on student teaching programs in secondary schools which have been argued over and to develop better student teaching programs, it is crucial to understand what is going on in the student teaching programs. Therefore, this study investigated the process of students teaching in secondary schools through using the mixed methods. That is, the data of the study were collected from by self-reports, interviews and surveys, and they were analyzed by the thematic analysis and the frequency analysis. This study found that the process of student teaching was composed of orientation on school administrative work, classroom observation, teaching practice, student guidance, and the participation in school events. In conclusion, the study suggested the improvement of the quality of the orientation, the reduction of classroom observations on non-major subject, the evaluation on teaching practices, and the development of the common manual on student teaching.
