21세기를 맞이하는 현대 사회에서는 노년기에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 평균수명이 현저하게 연장되면서 노인 인구가 높아지고 있기 때문이다. 현대사회에 들어와 영양공급이 양호해지고 의료혜택이 확대되면서 평균수명이 급격하게 증가하고 있다. 우리나라의 1979년 통계에 의하면 평균수명이 남자 62.7세 여자 69.1세였으나, 1991년에는 남자 67.6세 여자 75.6세로 12년 사이에 약 5년 이상 증가하였다. 따라서 전체 인구 중 노인이 차지하는 비율도 급격하게 증가되고 있다. 서구사회의 통계에 의하면 1900년(전 국민 중 65세 이상의 노인 인구의 비율이 3.1%)에 비하여 2000년에는 거의 10배에 해 당되고 2030년에는 2000년의 2배가될 것으로 예측되고 있다. 우리나라의 경우에도 60세 이상의 노인이 1960년에는 약 5.5%에 불과 했으나, 2000년에는 10.7%이며, 2020년에는 17.7%에 달할 것으로 예측되고 있다.
This case is concerned with secondary precocious dementia that has made the client to have the difficulty in making a daily life. The propose of this study is to effectiveness of art therapy to old person with dementia. One old person with dementia pargficipated in this case study. There were sessions， each session lasted 2 hours. The pre!post design was used to eva1uate the effecctiveness of the art therapy. The results were effec디ve rnaking a daily life. First, the difficulty in rnaking a daily life of an old person with dementia was decreased. Second, through 따t therapy, art expression activities of an 이d person with dementia was changed.
