본 연구는 피카소의 생애와 그의 작품 세계에 나타난 색채의 사용을 시대별로 알아보고 작품속에 표현되어진 색채를 통하여 작가의 내면의 심리와 삶을 분석하여 심리적인 치유의 효과에 대하여 알아보고자 하였다. 이로써 작품 속에 나타난 색채사용의 역사(color history)를 이해하여 작가의 색채표현이 심리치료로서 멘탈케어에 영향을 준 부분을 시대별로 구분하였다. 피카소의 절친한 친구 카사헤마스의 죽음과 함께 정신적인 방황의 시대를 표현한 청색시대(1901～1904) 작품연구는 청색의 색채를 통하여 색채치료(color therapy)의 효과로 작가의 정서적 심리상태에 영향을 주었으며, 청색시대와 장밋빛 시대에 나타난 과도기적인 회색과 노랑의 색채 표현은 고통과 좌절에서 희망의 모습을 예고하였다. 피카소가 사랑의 체험을 통하여 여성에 이끌려 새로운 감각을 나타낸 장밋빛 시대(1904～1906)의 분홍의 사용은 질병이 치료되고 자신감과 자아존중감이 싹트는 시기임을 알 수 있었다. 1937～1945년도에 표현된 모노크롬 색상은 시대의 절망과 고통, 우울, 분노, 절규를 찾아 볼 수 있었다. 피카소는 자신의 인생을 색채를 통하여 생의 역동을 표현하여 주었으며 그 속에서 절망과 좌절, 우울, 빈곤, 병마, 행복, 사랑, 분노 등을 시대적으로 작품 속에 표출하여 주었다. 한 작가의 색채의 히스토리가 색채치료로서 작가의 심리와 멘탈케어(mentalcare)에 영향을 줄 수 있다는 것이 연구되어 졌다.
The purpose of this paper is to look into Picso's life and the chronical use of color in his works, analyze the painter's inner world and the psychological effect of color therapy through the color used in his works. Based-on the understanding of the color history in his works, the influence of the painter's color expression to his mental health and mental care as color therapy was divided by the time period. It was expressed as a blue period(1901-1904) for his deranged mental condition because of his close friend Kasahemas' death. During this period it was found out that the blue color showed the psychological effect to the painter and also foretold the grey color meant pain and disaster and the yellow color the hope. It also was found out the pink color could be used to encourage one's confidence and self-esteem and heal the disease through his own love experience. The monocrom color used from 1937 to 1945 revealed despair, pain, depression, anger, and exclamation of that time. Picaso expressed his life energetically and displayed despair, depression, poverty, sickness, happiness and anger in his works chronically through the color. It was investigated the painter's color history could be used the therapy and influenced to his mentality and the mental care. Key Words : Color Psychology, Color History, Color Therapy
