본 연구는 자기인식적 미술치료기법들로 구성된 총 13회기의 단기집단미술치료 프로그램이 입원한 만성 정신분열병 환자의 자기존중감에 미치는 영향을 확인하고자 실시되었다. 연구설계는 단일군 전후 설계이고, 연구대상은 I시의 전문정신병원에 입원한 만성 정신분열병 환자 7명이었다. 자료수집기간은 2006년 1월 2일부터 동년 2월 3일까지였다. 연구측정도구는 Rosenberg 의 자기존중감 척도(RSES : Rosenberg\'s Self-Esteem Scale, 1965)였고, 측정된 자료는 SPSS WIN program을 이용하여 Wilcoxon signed ranks test를 하였다. 본 연구결과 단기집단미술치료 프로그램에 참여한 실험군은 프로그램 참여 전보다 자기존중감 점수가 높게 나타났다(z=-2.120, p<.05). 본 연구는 대조군이 없는 단일군 전후설계를 이용하고, 특정 지역의 일개 정신병원에 입원해 있는 환자들로부터 편의 추출한 대상자들에게 수행되었기 때문에 연구 결과를 일반화하는데 제한점이 있다. 결론적으로 단기 치료의 한계성에도 불구하고 정신병리의 심각도와 발병기간이 반드시 단기치료 적용의 기준이 되는 것이 아니며, 미술작업을 통해 자신을 인식하고 통찰할 수 있는 미술치료는 급성 및 만성질환으로 병원에 입원한 일부 정신과 대상자들에게 효과적인 중재임을 알 수 있다.
Purpose: This study was conducted to determine the effects of short-term group art therapy on self-esteem in chronic schizophrenic inpatients. Method: The design of this study was a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects consisted of 7 in the experimental group. The short-term group art therapy was performed for 1 hour, four times a week for 3 weeks. Data were analyzed by the SPSS(ver.10.0) computer program, and it included Wilcoxon signed ranks test. Results: There was significant difference in total self-esteem score in the experimental group(z=-2.120, p<.05). Conclusion: The current clinical situation can be frustrating if one maintains a long-term treatment frame of mind. Future research should examine self-esteem among psychiatric inpatients in relation to their varied levels of functioning, motivation, and diagnoses. A contribution of the current study is to provide future directions for short-term interventions. The findings suggest that self-esteem enhancement strategies should be considered integrated program involving cognitive and affective characteristics.
