본 연구의 목적은 에곤 쉴레의 나무그림에서 불안의 이미지가 무의식적인 자기표현으로 어떻게 드러나고 있는지 알아보고자 하였다. 연구 대상은 1906년부터 1918년까지 에곤 쉴레의 작품 중 나무그림 13점이며 나무그림에서 나타나는 불안의 이미지를 알아보기 위해 작가의 성장과정과 회화적 특성을 시대별로 나누어 분석한후 선, 색채, 형태 등은 질적 분석을 통해 알아보았다. 그리고 나무그림 13점을 분석하기 위한 검사도구로는 나무그림검사(Baum test)의 분석 지표 중 15개 변인을 이용하여 양적분석을 통해 알아보았다. 에곤 쉴레의 작품13점의 나무그림의 채점자간 일치도 및 분석을 위해 SPSS 14.0 Program을 이용하여 교차분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구에서 얻어진 연구 결과를 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 에곤 쉴레의 나무그림은 원근법을 무시하고 어두운 색조를 사용하고 있으며 나무그림을 통해 자신의 자화상처럼 나무도 인간의 형태를 닮게 그리고 있다. 그리고 자신의 방어적 성격, 불안과 자기 사이의 갈등을 무의식적으로 드러내고 있다. 둘째, 나무그림검사와 에곤쉴레의 나무와의 관계에서는 15개의 변인 중 줄기의 굵기, 밑둥, 줄기표면 등 3개에서 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다.
The purpose of this study is to know how the image of anxiety in Egon Schiele\'s tree pictures appears an unconscious self-expression. The subject of the research are Egon Schiele\'s 13 tree pictures painted from 1906 to 1918. In order to inquire the image of anxiety, the research analysed the painter\'s formation process and pictorial characteristics through his life and then examined, through the qualitative methods, lines, colors, and forms in the pictures. The measurement tools used for quantitative analysis of the 13 tree pictures in this research were 15 variables of the analytic indicators in Baum test. The analysis of the data is used by cross-analysis employing SPSS 14.0 Program for calculating inter-annontator agreement. The result of the study is following: First, the tree pictures of Egon Schiele ignored the perspective and used dark color tones, and showed a human feature of trees as like his self-portrait. Additionally it unconsciously showed a conflict between his defensive character and anxiety. Second, there were the 3 significant differences of the 15 variables, for instance the thickness and surface of tree\'s trunk, in relation between Baum test and Egon Schiele\'s tree.
