The purpose of the study was to investigate if a child's verbal expression about his picture is helpful to develop his verbal ability and picture expression ability. In order to accomplish this purpose, children were organized into two groups. They talked about the theme, intention and feelings to induce various responses. The object of the study was 60 children who were full 5 to 6 years old in S Kindergarten in Seoul. The pilot study were carried out to a control group and a comparative group on the picturing, expression and verbal abilities to examine the homogeneity between the two groups considering their ages. The results suggested statistically little difference between the two groups. Now the real experiment was conducted on the verbal, picturing and expression abililties. This study employed the instrument used by Jang Young-Ae(1981) on the verbal ability investigation and the measurings used by Shin Soo- Young(1990) on picturing and expression ability. The data process was made to investigate the three abilities. This study determined that the high-scored children have more abilities in speech, picturing and expression than the low-scored children do. The results obtained by this study were as follows; 1) The group who talked about their own pictures appeared to have higher verbal abilities then the group who didn't talk about their pic lures. 2) The group who talked about their own pictures appeared to have higher picture expression abilithes the group who didn't.
