This study examined and the 7th Korean National Art Curriculum and the Japanese new National Art Curriculum and provided a comprehensive view as reference materials for organizing the contents of the art textbooks. This study included 1) understanding on the 7th Korean National Art Curriculum (the 7th Korean National Curriculum, the current Korean National Art Curriculum, the contents of the 7th Korean National Art Curriculum), 2) understanding on the new Japanese National Art Curriculum (the new National Curriculum in Japan, the current Japanese art education and its situation, the basic principle of the new Japanese National Art Curriculum, the direction for the curriculum improvement). The recommendations for its improvement and implication on the two countries' new National Art Curriculum were tile followings: 1) the art textbooks, CD-ROM, computer software and multi-media should be developed based on the philosophy and principle of the National Art Curriculum, 2) the in-service art-teacher education should be reindoreed, 3) appropriate and flexible time- block system should be considered for the better art instruction, 4) the educational, environment and the local society should be considered to organize the contents of the cIt textbooks.
