This study examined the primary-school experimental textbooks, “Pleasant Life” for 1st and 2nd grades focused on art activities to improve the content and structure of the textbooks which will be applied to the classroom next year nationwide, and suggested a one activity unit, “Exploring shapes for ideas: Using shadow” in order to show an idea to organize activity units for the formal textbook. The purpose of the study to examine the current Korean National Curriculum of “Pleasant Life,” 1st and 2nd grade primary-school subject, and its experimental textbooks of 1st-semester of 1st and 2nd grades. This study included 1) the current Korean National Curriculum of “Pleasant Life,” 1st and 2nd-grade primary-school subject (① the integrated National Curriculum for 1st and 2nd-grade primary school, and ② the contents of the experimental textbooks “Pleasant Life.”) 2) the 7th Korean National curriculum for Kindergarten, and 3rd and 4th-grade primary-school “Art” subjects, 3) the analysis on the contents of “Pleasant Life,” the 1st and 2nd-grade experimental textbooks (① “Pleasant Life,” 1st and 2nd-grade primary-school integrated curriculum, ② the analysis on its experimental textbooks for 1st-semester of 1st and 2nd grades (1st-semester of 1st and 2nd-grade experimental textbooks of “Pleasant Life,” and the analysis on its contents focused on art activities), one activity units suggested to show an idea in order to organize units for the textbook). It is regarded that to analyze the contents and the structure of the experimental textbooks is important in spite of a short time to correct and reconstruct the contents before the formal textbooks are published. In the analysis of the experimental textbooks, the title of the units, class activities, instructional and expressional methods, activity materials(mediums) of the course units should be considered in its relation to the National Curriculum.
