A comparative study on the art textbooks for high school students developed under the guidance of the seventh Korean National Art Curriculum has been conducted. The basic theme of contents is mainly assorted by aesthetic experience, art expression, and art appreciation. One noteworthy progress is the introduction of new subjects such as photography, computer graphics, and even video arts and holograms as well as cartoons, illustrations and animations. As the newly introduced expression methods for high school students, there are not only wood and metal crafts but computer graphics like web design, home page design, and so on. However, too many kinds of specific fields are presented in one area, which may hamper the smooth progress of class due to the shortage of time. In general, the weight of the design elements and principles is more or less poor compared to other constituents of art expression. New materials such as conte, oil paint, acrylic board, isopink, and so on are introduced. Art appreciation is more focused than studio arts, and art heredity seems to be more emphasized than the appreciation of their and artists' artworks. For some class subjects, the allocation of time to conduct the given assignment is not enough that should be adjusted in the near future.
