The purpose of this study is to develop the teaching methods of 'color experience' focusing on students' color discovery through watercolor painting in art education of the elementary schools, and accordingly to explore the methods for increasing the capability of expression and effectiveness of art education. For the development of teaching methods, the researcher has conducted the project with the elementary school children for a year. This project, titled a teaching method for practical experience, has been implemented by using a wet drawing paper for the expression of water painting. In the process of implementation, the student participants have experienced the followings: ① the students have spontaneously discovered the brightness of Hue through the experiences of a single color. ② by two color experiences, the students have discovered the brightness of Hue obtained by a mixed color experiences which they have already known. At the same time the student participants have begun to understand the meaning of chroma. ③ it is by three color experiences that the students have discovered the meaning of a primary color in itself. And they have experienced the possibilities of a colorful drawings by using only three primary colors. ④ the students have also experienced a various color. ⑤ it is the students themselves to discover the color and to experience the joy and delightedness by the expression of image of mind through utilizing an unrestricted color. By result of these implementations, the students have discovered a various color by themselves through the creative color experiences, and have begun to understand the characteristics of the color in dept. The synergy effects the students got include the increase of motivation for art education, capabilities of diverse expression, and stability of mind.
