Study of Teacher’s Views of Children and Beliefs on Teaching Method in the Early Childhood Education and Care in Japan and Korea

For the purpose of Japan-Korea comparison of teachers' views of children and beliefs on teaching method in the early childhood education, l98 Japanese and Korean early childhood teachers were conducted the survey. Factor analysis (Principal Component Analysis)were applied to the inventory data. For teachers’ views of children and beliefs on teaching method, three basic factors were found. These factors were used as scales respectively. Each teacher's responses were located on the scales in order to clarify the characteristic features of Japanese and Korean teachers’ views of children and beliefs on teaching method. The following findings resulted:(1)Japanese early childhood teachers tended to perceive that children are able and are brought up spontaneously;(2)Japanese early childhood teachers tended to regard personal freedom as more important than unity of a group, whereas Korean early childhood teachers tended to regard unity of a group as more important.
