마을박물관활동의 평생교육적 의의

The Lifelong Educational Significance of Community Museum Activities

본 논문은 최근 확산되고 있는 마을공동체활동 가운데 마을박물관활동을 분석하였다. 중고령자들이 개인이나 마을의 기억을 수집하여 사회적 기억을 조직화하는 문화 활동이 중고령자의 인지적, 문화적, 사회적 성장에 기여하는 특징을 제시하였다. 이 연구를 위하여 연구자는 마을박물관활동에 마을큐레이터로 참여한 주민들의 경험을, 근거이론에 기초한 질적 사례연구를 통하여 조사, 분석하였다. 자료 수집을 위하여 2017년 4월과 2018년 7월에 인천의 토지금고 마을박물관을 견학하고 기관 활동 자료를 고찰하고 나아가 6명의 마을큐레이터를 인터뷰하였다. 본 연구의 결과에 따르면, 박물관의 기억 문화 활동은 기억의 성과의 관람이나 문화콘텐츠에 대한 학습과는 다르다. 기억 문화 활동은 고령자가 마을에서의 경험과 기억을 활용하여 ‘전시’라고 하는 교육적 성과물을 만들어 가면서 기억에 대한 미션, 의미를 발견하고 이를 실행하는 실천이다. 이러한 활동은 신체적⋅사회적⋅심리적으로 계속된 상실의 불안을 특징으로 하는 노년기에 미래의 관점에서 기억을 인식한다고 하는 독특한 관점을 창조하며 고령자의 폭 넓은 인지적, 문화적, 사회적 활동을 자극한다. 본 사례연구의 성과는, 마을 박물관활동이 성인 및 고령자의 인지능력의 개발 및 문화적 사회적 능력제고에 기여한다는 교육적 시사점을 준다.

This study analyzes museum activities, one of the recent trends in community activities. The study demonstrates how cultural activities that promote social memories based upon community and individual reminiscing can contribute to the cognitive, cultural, and social growth of the elderly. Adopting the grounded theory framework, this qualitative case study explores the experiences of residents participating in community museum activities as curators. The data were drawn from multiple visits to a community museum located in Incheon in April 2017 and July 2018. Institutional activity records were reviewed and interviews with six community curators were conducted. The results revealed that the cultural reminiscing activities carried out in community museums differed from those that involved viewing memory achievement performances and learning cultural contents. By engaging in museum activities, elderly participants utilized and demonstrated their experiences and reminiscences of the community. In so doing, they discovered memory-related missions and meanings while making educational progress. Their achievements stimulated broader cognitive, cultural, and social activities while creating unique perspectives that recognized memories from future viewpoint of the elderlys. This study provides educational implications with regard to the importance and contribution of community museum activities in developing the cognitive abilities of the elderly.
