Recycling of various wastes such as sewage sludge requires the energy conversion process like thermal decomposition/gasification process. During the process, tar from decomposed gas will bring trouble in pipeline and performance issue. In this study, gliding arc plasma reformer is developed to convert tar from thermal decomposition. In addition, parametric experiments are conducted to test the variables that can affect on removal efficiency, and the optimal driving condition is provided. Optimal conditions are 2.5 of S/C ratio, 1.00 KWhm-3 of SEI, 18.4L/minutes of the total gas amount, 1% of input naphthalene concentration, and 95 mm of electrode length. The corresponding maximum decomposition efficiency of naphthalene is 79%, and energy efficiency shows 47 g/kWh. As parametric researches, steam to carbon ratio, specific energy input, total feed gas amount, input naphthalene concentration, and electrode length are selected for experiments. Optimum results are achieved for each variable, Steam input amount, SEI, stabilized efficiency, feed gas amount and input naphthalene amount. Regarding the electrode length for optimal design, electrode should be as long as possible after discharge is formed.
