국가이미지를 활용한 지역 학습 방안

The Strategy of Region Learning through the Application of National Images

초등 사회과 지리영역의 중요한 학습 대상은 지역이다. 제7차 교육과정에서 지역학습의 범위는 학년이 올라감에 따라 지역의 범위가 확대되고 있다. 즉 3학년에서는 우리 고장의 지역을, 4학년에서는 시, 도의 지역을, 5학년에서는 우리나라의 지역을, 6학년에서는 세계의 여러 국가들의 지역을 학습하게 하고 있다. 지역학습의 핵심은 해당 지역의 지역성을 알고 나아가 그 지역을 사랑하는 마음을 갖게 하는데 있다. 지역학습을 할 때 교사가 정보를 일방적으로 나열하는 방식으로 접근할 경우 학생들은 많은 정보를 암기해야 하는 것으로 생각하여 학습능률이 저하되고 흥미를 잃게 된다. 따라서 지역 학습 시 학습자들의 관심, 흥미, 떠오르는 이미지, 알아보고 싶은 것 등을 감안하여 수업을 할 때 사회과 학습 효과뿐만 아니라 학습자 중심의 수업을 할 수 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 상기 내용을 감안하여 초등학생들이 가지고 있는 세계 국가에 대한 이미지를 파악하고 국가 이미지 형성에 영향을 주는 요인을 검토ㆍ분석하여 학습자 중심의 지역학습 방안을 모색하는데 있다. 특히 학습자 중심의 지역학습은 교과서의 내용을 나열하고 백과사전적으로 암기하는 전통적 방식에서 벗어나 학생들이 가지고 있는 선험적 지식과 관심, 흥미 등을 최대한 반영할 수 있는 인지갈등수업 모형을 적용할 필요성이 있다. 이러한 학습모형을 통해 학생들이 가지고 있는 기존의 지식에다 토론과정을 통해 지역성을 탐색하게 하였다. 지역이미지를 활용한 학습모형을 적용한 결과 전통적인 학습방법으로 수업한 집단보다 인지적 측면에서 더 높은 성취도를 나타냈다.

A region is a important concept among geography realms in social studies. In 7th curriculum, the social studies textbook deals with regional characteristics within a village in the third grade, within a city and province in the forth grade, within a nation in the fifth grade, and within a world in the sixth grade. It is important for students to learn regional characteristics, and then love its area. In case of studying a region, if teachers instruct its information directly, student will be lose one’s interest, because students consider as memorizing simple information. Therefore, the effective learning of region has to consider learner-centered interest and image, and add to schema and cognition etc. The goal of this paper is to find strategy of region learning through the application of national images considering student s schema and images According to results of research, it is proved that strategy of region learning through the application of national images takes effective.
