대학순위평가의 점수산출방법 비교 연구

Study on the Scoring Methods of University Ranking Systems

본 연구는 대학순위평가의 점수산출방법을 비교분석하여 제안점을 찾는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위하여 다양한 대학순위평가 중 국내에서 관심의 대상이 되고 있는 중앙일보 대학종합평가, QS 세계대학평가, 조선일보-QS 아시아대학평가, THE-톰슨로이터 세계대학평가, 상하이자 이통대학 세계학술역량평가의 다섯가지 대학순위평가를 대상으로 점수산출방법을 비교하였다. 상하이자이통대학의 경우 100점 대비 점수를 활용하고 있으며, 나머지 경우는 표준점수를 기반으로 기관에 따라 차별화된 방법을 활용하였다. 표준점수에 기반하는 경우 기준점수의 안정성이 높고 평가지표간 척도가 일치되었다. 편포 및 아웃라이어에 대해서는 QS와 THE-톰슨로이터는 정상분포상의 백분위, 자연로그 등을 활용하여 교정하고 있으며, 중앙일보의 경우 별도의 변환공식을 활용하고 있었다. 평가지표별 점수를 합산할 때 QS와 THE-톰슨로이터의 경우 평가척도가 일치하는 반면, 중앙일보의 경우는 제한적으로 일치하였다. QS와 THE-톰슨로이터의 경우 점수변환과정에서 개선이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 상하이자이통대학을 중심으로 한 100점 대비 점수는 점수산출과정에서 제기되는 제반문제에 대한 대처가 전혀 없어 적극적인 개선이 필요하였다.

This study aimed to compare of scoring methods of university ranking system. The scoring methods of four university ranking systems having great interests at korea was compared: University Ranking by JoongAng Ilbo, World University Ranking by QS, Asian university Ranking by Chosun Ilbo-QS, World University Ranking by THE-Thomson Reuters and Academic Ranking of World Universities by Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The fields of comparison were scoring method of indicator, stability of norm score, correction method for outliers and distribution, and scale matching of indicators. Shanghai Jiao Tong University use percentage score to 100, QS and THE-Thomson Reuters use percentile rank based on standard score, and JoongAng Ilbo use transformed score based on standard score. The three cases based on standard score keep stability of norm score and react to outliers. But QS and THE-Thomson Reuters are needed to improve the transforming method of raw score, and JoongAng Ilbo is needed to improve scale matching. The percentile score to 100 by Shanghai Jiao Tong University has many faults in various fields. In Korea, Many people have great interests in university ranking but they have doubts about validity of university ranking related with criteria, weight, scoring method and survey method. Institutions carrying out university ranking system must try to develop suitable scoring method corresponding to demands of universities.
