사랑을 담은 초대의 교육 공간

Pedagogical Space of Invitation with Love

증언적인 이 글 속에 나는 우리나라에서의 교육 경험을 바탕으로 미국에서 석사와 박사 과정의 공부를 하는 동안 그곳의 교수들과 함께 연구하고 실천한 비평적 리터러시를 통해 건강한 교육 공간을 창출하는 사랑을 담은 “초대의 교육학” (Pedagogy of Invitation: Bahruth, 1998, 2011) 을 이야기한다. 초대의 교육학이 교육자로서의 내 삶에 미친 영향은 총체적이고 변혁적이었다. 그 변화로 인해 나는 삶과 배움의 교육학을 더 깊이 이해하게 되었고 이에 따라 실천하는 학자의 길을 향해 노력하였다. 이를 통해 새로운 앎과 배움의 얼개인 ‘상호주관적 교육 지식’ (Intersubjective Pedagogical Knowledge) 을 제안한다. 이는 교사가 학생과 함께 탐구하는 주제와 관련해서 상호주관적 교육 지식이 살아자라는 초대의 교육 공간을 열게 되는 이야기 함께 나누기 (Blending Narrative Storytelling: Harris, 2007) 교육 접근법이다. 교사는 자신의 이야기를 통해 교육과정을 맥락화 및 재맥락화할 뿐 아니라 학생들과 상호주관적이고 상호텍스트적인 대화를 통해 교실 안과 밖에서 살아온 삶의 이야기들로 다시 재맥락화하여 진정한 교육과정을 함께 만들어간다.

In this testimonial piece, I intend to explain pedagogy of invitation“ (Bahruth, 2005) with love that creates a pedagogical space of critical literacy as I have experienced through my graduate studies in the United States in relation to my educational experience in Korea. The influence of the pedagogy on my life as an educator has been holistic and transformative. The transformation encouraged me to work on scholarship that helped connect my practices to the pedagogy of life and learning to a deeper understanding. This resulted in an alternative framework of knowledge and learning: Intersubjective Pedagogical Knowledge (IPK: Yu, 2011). Teachers with their students will open pedagogical space of invitation where IPK resides and grows in relation to themes they are exploring: an instructional approach of Blending Narrative Storytelling (Harris, 2007). The teacher recontextualizes the curriculum not only through her personal narratives but even more so through intersubjective and intertextual sharing with the students of their narratives coming out of their lived lives in and out of the classroom.
