한·미 초등학교 사회과 교과서의 내러티브 분석

An Analysis of Narrative Text Described in Elementary Social Studies Textbooks of South Korea and the US

본 연구는 한·미 초등학교 사회과 교과서에 서술된 내러티브를 비교․분석하여 교과서를 개발할 때의 시사점을 도출하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 한·미 6학년 사회과 교과서의 지리 단원을 대상으로 내러티브의 유형과 내용을 분석하였다. 내러티브의 유형은 저자가 안내하는 내러티브, 학습자의 일상경험을 이야기하는 내러티브, 사회적 이슈/문제/주제 관련 내러티브로 구분하였다. 그리고 내러티브의 내용은 교과와의 관련, 다른 사람의 삶과 관련, 학습자의 삶과 관련, 재미와 감동 관련, 학습자의 다양한 요구와 능력을 고려하는 내용으로 구분하였다. 연구 결과, 내러티브를 활용하여 교과서를 서술할 때 고려해야 할 점을 네 가지로 제시하였다. 첫째, 지리 교과서에서 지리 관련 내러티브만 포함하는 것이 아니라, 다양한 문학/역사/사회 내러티브들을 활용함으로써 지리 교과 학습의 흥미와 효과를 높일 필요가 있다. 둘째, 국어, 경제, 정치, 역사, 공학, 미술 등 다양한 교과와의 통합 학습의 효과를 촉진할 수 있는 방식으로 내러티브 서술을 확장할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 사회적 이슈/문제/주제 중심의 탐구활동을 안내하는 내러티브에서는 학습 공동체의 가치를 높이 인정하고 수용할 수 있는 방식으로 서술할 필요가 있다. 넷째, 단원의 도입단계나 정리단계에서 뿐만 아니라, 본문에서도 보다 많은 내러티브를 활용할 필요가 있다.

This study aims to draw implications and to analyze the types and features of narrative contents described in sixth-grade social studies textbooks of South Korea and the US. Two criteria are the type and content of narratives described in textbooks. The types of narratives are divided into three: The author s narrative, the learner s narrative and social issue/problem/topic. And the contents of narratives are divided into five: subject-related narrative, life-related narrative, narrative to suggest talking about the lives of the learners, funny and impressive narrative and differentiated narrative considering the wide range of needs and abilities of learners. The findings are as follows. Firstly, there is a need to take advantage of a variety of literary/historic/social narratives. Secondly, there is a need to select and organize more various narratives in a way that can facilitate the effectiveness of integrated learning. Thirdly, narratives should acknowledge the value of the learning community. Lastly, there is a need to improve students learning effectiveness by utilizing more narratives in the body of the textbook.
