초등사회과의 학습부진 원인 탐색

Exploration on the Causes of Underachievement in Elementary Social Studies

현재 사회과 교육에서는 학습부진에 대한 연구가 충분히 이루어지지 않고 있다. 본 연구는 초등학교 교육 현장 수준에서의 사회과 학습부진의 의미를 탐색하고 사회과 학습부진아를 대상으로 부진의 원인을 찾아보고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 지능은 보통이거나 정상인데 특히 사회과 학습에 있어서 성취도가 낮은 초등학교 3～6학년 20명을 연구 대상으로 선정하여 교내성취도 평가에 대한 문항 분석, 수행평가 결과, 창의적 문제 해결력 검사, 설문조사, 면담, 생활기록부 분석, 각 아동들의 담임교사와의 면담을 통하여 사회과 학습 부진의 원인을 탐색하고자 하였다. 분석 결과, 인지적, 정의적, 환경적 측면에서 사회과 학습부진의 원인을 찾을 수 있었다. 대부분의 아동들에게서 인지적인 요소의 결여가 사회과 부진에 가장 크게 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 학습부진의 원인은 아동들 개개인마다 차이가 있었고 한 가지 요인으로 부진이 나타나는 경우보다는 여러 가지 요인들이 복합적으로 작용하는 경우가 많았다.

The underachievement issue which we must solve in our education field has not been solved until now. Especially, there hasn`t been enough studies regarding the underachievement in social studies which takes a significant role for the development of social recognition and citizenship. Therefore, this article is intended to define the meaning of underachievement in social studies at the elementary level and search for the reasons of underachievement for underachievers in social studies. 20 underachievers with normal intelligence level but a low level of achievement in social studies from the 3rd to 6th grade of elementary school were selected for the target of this study, and the reasons of underachievement in social studies were examined through the item analysis regarding the evaluation of in-school achievement, results of performance assessment, creative problem-solving test, survey, interview, analysis of student record and interview with a teacher in charge of each student. The result showed that the reasons of underachievement varied from person to person. And also, various reasons rather than one reason caused the underachievement in combination. Overall, the lack of cognition affected underachievement in social studies most significantly for most children.
