An Analysis of the Cultural Contents of the English Textbooks for 4^th grade in Elementary School

본 연구의 목적은 2009 개정 영어과 교육과정에 따른 초등학교 4학년 영어 교과서 총 5종의 문화 내용을 분석하는 데 있다. 본 연구에서는 2014학년도에 학교 현장에서 사용될 예정인 초등학교 4학년 영어 교과서 5종의 대화문과 문화 코너를 소재별, 문화 배경별, 문화 유형별로 분석하여 각각의 교과서가 교육과정에서 강조하고 있는 문화 내용을 얼마나 충실히 반영하고 있는지, 교과서에 소개된 문화 내용은 어떤 문화 배경과 문화 유형인지를 분석하였다. 소재는 개정 교육과정에서 제시하고 있는 19가지 소재 항목을 기준으로 분석하였고, 문화 배경은 한국 문화 , 영미 문화 , 비교 문화 , 보편 문화 , 기타 문화 , 5가지 항목을 기준으로 분석하였다. 마지막으로 문화 유형의 분석은 Moran(2001)이 제시한 산물 , 관습 , 관점 , 공동체 , 인물 , 5가지 항목을 기준으로 분석하였다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the cultural materials of the fourth grade English textbooks in the elementary school, which will be used from 2014 and that is on the basis of the revised national curriculum. This study analyzed the cultural content of the listening dialogues and culture sections in fourth grade textbooks, using three tools: topics in the revised curriculum, cultural background and cultural type. I analyzed the listening dialogues and culture sections by 19 topics in the 2009 revised English curriculum. I classified the cultural content into four cultural backgrounds by nationality: Korean cultural background, British and American cultural background, Korean/British and American comparative cultural background, general cultural background, Etc cultural background. I analyzed the cultural content by Moran(2001) classification: Products, Practices, Perspectives, Communities and Persons.
