Effects of Career Education in School

본 연구는 학교 진로교육이 진로교육의 목표로 삼고 있는 자기이해, 직업태도, 진로 계획성, 진로 행동에 주는 효과와 대학 진학자를 대상으로 학과 재선택 의지에 주는 영향력을 밝히는 것을 목표로 한다. 이를 위해 한국교육개발원의 한국교육종단조사 데이터를 활용하여 분석을 진행하였으며, 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중학교 및 고등학교의 진로교육은 진로 계획성과 진로 행동에 긍정적 효과를 주지만, 자기이해에 주는 효과는 없었으며 직업태도에는 부정적 영향을 주었다. 둘째, 학교 동아리 활동에 참여한 기간은 자기이해, 직업태도, 진로 계획성, 진로행동에 긍정적 효과를 준다. 셋째, 가정 내에서 이루어지는 부모의 진로지원 활동 역시 자기이해, 직업태도, 진로 계획성, 진로행동에 긍정적 효과를 준다. 넷째, 학교 진로교육 및 동아리 활동이 대학 진학생의 학과 재 선택 의지에 주는 효과는 없었다. 이러한 결과는 향후 학교 진로교육 정책을 실행함에 있어 학생이 자신의 능력, 흥미, 적성 등 을 이해하는 활동과 올바른 직업의식을 길러줄 수 있는 교육이 보다 내실 있게 운영되어야 하며, 학교 동아리 활동을 활성화 시키는 정책이 추진될 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

This study investigated the effects of career education on self-understanding, job attitude, career planning and career behaviors, as well as college major decision-making. Korean Educational Longitudinal Study(KELS) data collected by Korea Educational Development Institute(KEDI) were analyzed. The main findings were as follows. First, career education in junior high and high schools had positive effects on career planning and career behaviors, while it showed no effect on self-understanding and negative effect on job attitude. Second, the period participating the extracurricular activities in schools influenced positive on self-understanding, job attitude, career planning, and career behaviors. Third, parents’ support on career education also had positive impact on self-understanding, job attitude, career planning, and career behaviors. Finally, career education and participation in extracurricular activities in schools showed no impact on college major decision-making for students who pursued the higher education. These results indicated that prior to career education, schools should carry out programs for students to understand their own competence, interest and aptitude as well as to have proper vocational consciousness. In addition, they suggested that relevant policy should be implemented to reinforce the extracurricular activities in schools.
