대학 신입생 적응 지원을 위한 교육요구 분석

Need Analysis on Education for Supporting First-year Students’ Adjustment to College

학부교육의 중요성에 대한 인식이 높아지면서 신입생의 대학 적응을 돕기 위한 교육과 지원이 필요하다는 인식도 높아지고 있다. 실제 여러 선행연구들은 신입생의 성공적인 대학 정착이 이후 학업지속과 성취도에 유의미한 영향을 미친다고 밝히고 있다. 이에 신입생을 대상으로 한 전담 교육 프로그램을 제공하는 대학이 점차 늘어나고 있는 추세이다. 그러나 신입생들이 어떤 교육과 지원을 요구하는지 분석한 연구는 많지 않다. 이 연구는 대학 신입생의 적응과 정착을 위한 요구를 분석함으로써 효과적인 신입생 프로그램을 개발하는데 시사점을 제공하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 문헌 및 사례 연구, 19명의 학생들을 대상으로 한 초점집단면담 결과를 토대로 대학생활적응, 소속감, 진로설정, 기초역량 등과 관련된 20개의 교육요구를 도출하고, 384명의 학생들을 대상으로 각 교육요구에 대한 중요도, 곤란도, 지원시기 등을 조사하였다. 그 결과, 학생들은 ‘학과(전공)에 대한 확신과 이해 확대’, ‘미래비전과 인생설계(10, 20년 후)’, ‘진로탐색과 구체화’ 등이 가장 어려우면서도 중요한 항목으로 지적되었다. 반면 ‘대학(학과) 소속감과 자긍심 배양’, ‘동아리, 소학회 등 공동체 참여’, ‘타문화에 대한 이해와 포용’ 등은 상대적으로 중요도와 곤란도가 낮게 인식되었다. 각 항목별로 지원시기를 학년에 따라 중복표기 하도록 한 결과, 진로 및 취업과 관련된 요구는 1학년보다 2학년 또는 3학년 때 더 높게 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 학생들의 대학적응을 위한 신입생 교육 프로그램 개발의 시사점을 결론에서 제안하였다.

The purpose of this study is to identify the educational need of first-year students in adjusting to college life and to analyze the importance, the difficulties and supporting moments of those needs. 20 educational need, categorized with university life adjustment, sense of belonging, mapping the career path, and basic competency, were identified by six times focus-group interview with 19 students and reviewing literature. Survey was conducted on 384 students to confirm the importance, the difficulties and supporting moments of 20 educational needs. As a result, students felt understanding and confidence in one s major , designing the life and future and set-up the career paths which were the most important and difficult. Students indicated the relationship with faculty was not important, but the most difficult factor. The supporting moments were focused on the first-year of college, however, the support including career mapping were needed on sophomore and junior students.
