대학생의 다문화 역량에 관한 질적 사례 연구

A Qualitative Case Study on the Multicultural Competence of University Student

본 연구는 우리 사회가 다문화사회로 변화해 가는 상황에서 청소년 후기 대학생들이 다문화 역량을 어떻게 이해하는 지 그 의미를 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 대구지역 C대학의 대학생을 유의 표집하여 심층면접한 후 자료 분석을 위해 질적 사례연구방법을 사용하였다. 연구결과, 대학생 참여자의 다문화 역량에서 문화적 인식 3개, 문화적 지식 2개, 문화적 기술 3개 등 총 8개의 소주제들이 도출되었다. 문화적 인식은 차별당한 경험으로 인해 갖게 된 수용적인 자세와 비호의적인 이중적 감정이 공존하는 모습으로 나타났으며 문화적 지식에서 다양한 매체를 통한 타문화에 대한 이해, 적응과 자립에 대한 지원의 중요성에 주목하였다. 그리고 문화적 기술에서 이주민 권리의 수용과 욕구 지원에 있어 공감과 합의가 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 결론적으로 대학생의 다문화 역량은 “이주민에 대한 이중적 시선 가운데서도 다른 문화를 이해하고 이주민의 적응을 도와 차별없는 다문화사회를 만들어 가는” 것임을 확인하였다. 이에 대학생들이 “신중하고 폭넓은 사고”로 다문화사회를 살아갈 수 있도록 다양한 방식의 교육과 경험을 확대하고 차별과 편견을 개선하는 사회분위기 조성이 필요함을 제안하였다.

This study aims to explore the meaning of multicultural competence of university students by using qualitative case study method. For the purpose, 3 university students were participated for the in-dept interviews and data were analyized qualitatively. Study results were suggested with eight sub-themes including three cultural cognition, two cultural knowledge, and three cultural skills of the cultural comptences of university participants. Cultural congnition includes the acceptance attitude and unfriendly dual feelings by discriminatory experiences and Cultural knowledge paid attention to the importances of adaptations and support and understanding other cultures through media. Cultural skill includes the acceptance of rights of immigrants and sympathy and agreements of the supports of their needs. In conlusion, the multicultural competence was understood as “making multicultural society of non-discriminant by accepting other cultures and helping adaptations of the immigrants among the dual aspects of views on the immigrants.” the necessity of making social environment was suggested by reducing dicscriminants and predudices by expanding experiences and various educations for better multicultural society with “deliberate and broad thinking” of the university students.
