브랜덤의 추론주의 의미 이론에서 “객관성 문제”와 “진리 문제” 해결에 관한 비판적 고찰

A Critical Review on the Solution of Objectivity Problem and Truth Problem in Brandom’s Inferentialism

추론주의 의미 이론은 언어 표현이 그것의 개념 역할을 규정하는 규범에 부합하게 사용된 것인지 아닌지 여부가 바로 그 언어 게임에 참가한 사람들의 규범적 태도와 상태에 의해서 판단되고, 그럼으로써 그 언어 표현의 명제적 내용이 결정된다고 한다. 이에 대해 그 명제적 내용이 사람들의 규범적 태도와 상태를 넘어서서 객관적으로 옳다고 말할 수 있느냐라는 소위 “진리 문제”와 “객관성 문제”가 제기된다. 브랜덤은 표상적 어구들과 규범적으로 섬세한 합리성의 구조가 이 두가지 문제를 모두 성공적으로 해결할 수 있다고 주장한다. 이러한 브랜덤의 해결책은 실제로 특정 언어 표현의 명제적 내용이 실제로 무엇인가라는 물음에 대해 만족할만한 답변을 제공하지 못하고 있다는 점에서 충분히 성공적이지 않지만, “객관성”과 “진리” 개념을 다루는 새로운 시각을 보여준 점에서 철학적 의의가 있다.

The inferential theory of meaning asserts that whether a particular linguistic expression is used in accordance with the norm that defines its concept role or not is judged by the normative states and attitudes of the people participating in the language game, and thereby the propositional content of that expression is determined. The truth question and objectivity problem are raised as to whether the propositional content can be objectively right beyond the normative states and attitudes of people. Brandom argues that the representational phrases and the normatively fine structure of rationality can successfully solve both problems. His solution to this problem is not sufficiently successful in that it does not provide a satisfactory answer to the essential question of the semantic theory of what an explicit content of a particular linguistic expression really is. But, I think there is a philosophically important point in that he showed a new perspective on the concept of objectivity and truth .
