중년기 부부의 장기결혼(long-term marriage)유지 경험에 대한 해석학적 현상학 연구: 결혼만족도가 높은 부부를 중심으로

Long-term Marriage Maintenance of Middle-aged Couples: A Hermeneutic Phenomenological Study

본 연구의 목적은 결혼만족도가 높은 부부를 중심으로 중년기 부부의 장기결혼(long-term marriage) 유지경험에 대하여 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 결혼만족도가 높은 중년 부부 10명을 대상으로 해석학적 현상학(hermeneutic phenomenology)적 연구방법을 적용하여 자료를 분석하였다. 본 연구 결과 4개의 주제와 9개의 하위주제가 도출되었으며, ‘가족갈등의 고통 속에서 부부의 울타리 만들어가기’, ‘우리로, 나로 균형 있게 살아가기’, ‘공통의 가치를 지향하기’, ‘유일한 친밀감으로 나이 듦의 길을 함께 걸어가기’의 주제가 도출되었다. 각 주제는 ‘아들, 며느리로서 고통을 서로 이해하며’, ‘부모로서 직면한 삶의 위기를 함께 하며’, ‘연결된 우리라서 더 독립적인 나로’, ‘유사함을 공유하고, 다름으로 보완하는’, ‘삶을 이끄는 가치를 근간으로 하여’, ‘이정표를 보면서 함께 일어서고 나아가는’, ‘오래되어 더 성숙한 고유한 사랑으로’, ‘빈 둥지로부터 제 2의 신혼기로’, ‘나이 듦과 삶의 유한성을 자각하며’의 하위주제로 구성되었다. 본 연구는 중년기 부부의 장기결혼 유지경험과 의미를 탐구하여, 이들의 삶에 대한 이해를 높이고 중년기 부부를 위한 부부상담 개입의 학문적 기초자료를 제시하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to describe the experiences of couples living happily while maintaining a “long-term marriage” (more than 20 years), and to explore the implications of these experiences. Methods: Five pairs of married couples in their 50s with high marital satisfaction were selected as study participants. Data collection, data analysis and writing procedures were based on van Manen s hermeneutic phenomenological method. Results: Four major themes were identified: “Making a couple s fence in the family conflict,” “Living together in a balanced way as us and as me,” “Orienting towards a common value,” and “Walking along the road of ‘aging’ with the only intimacy.” Ten subthemes were also derived. Conclusions: This study explored deeper understandings of marriage among long-term middle-aged couples with a high level of marital satisfaction.
