Purpose: This study is to examine the relationship among communication types, interpersonal relations and depression of nurses in hospital setting. Methods: The period of research was from Feb. 1 to 28, 2007 and the subjects of research were 667 nurses working at four general hospitals in G city. Research instruments were communication measurement instrument, interpersonal relations scale, and depression measurement instrument. Results: 1) Depression of clinical nurses had significant reverse correlations with communication types, depression had significant reverse correlations with interpersonal relations and significant positive correlations with communication types and interpersonal relations. 2) There were significant differences in depression and communication types according to general characteristics of subjects. 3) There were significant differences in degree of depression according to the communication types and interpersonal relations of subjects 4) Differences in communication, interpersonal relations and depression, depression showed significant negative correlations with communication types, interpersonal relations and significant positive correlations with interpersonal relations and communication types. Conclusion: Mental health program at workplace for enhancing communication and interpersonal relations of nurses and reducing their depression is required.
