Depression, Stigma, and Quality of Life among Chronic Liver Disease Patients Undergoing Outpatient Clinic Treatment

Purpose: This study was aimed to investigate the relationships among depression, stigma, and quality of life chronic liver disease patients who underwent medical treatment in an outpatients clinic. Method: Total 120 patients participated the study and completed a questionnaire. The data from the questionnaire were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and pearson’ correlation. Result: The patients showed low depression scores and mid level of stigma score. The score of depression was strongly negatively correlated with general health perception, physical functioning, and physical & emotional limitation of roles, but having strong positive correlations with social functioning, bodily pain, energy & fatigue, and emotional well-being. Furthermore, the score of depression was strongly negatively correlated with symptoms of liver disease, effects of liver disease, concentration, memory, health distress, and loneliness. Finally, the score of depression was moderately positively correlated with sexual functioning and sexual problems. Conclusion: As a results, it is ascertained that nursing interventions for the patients with chronic liver disease should be developed and implemented in order to improve their depression, stigma and Quality of life.
