대학박물관의 조사 유적을 활용한 체험학습 프로그램 ‘순천 월평유적군과 구석기인의 길’

“Path of the Paleolithic man” : an experience program explores Paleolithic life and culture along Wolpyeong site cluster

대학박물관의 전시와 사회교육에서 일반인들이 유물의 의미와 가치를 충분히 파악하고 이해하기란쉽지 않다. 이 문제의 근본 원인은 무엇보다도 박물관의 유물이 출토유적과 동떨어져 진열장 안에 박제된 표본처럼 놓여 있기 때문이다. 그래서 박물관 소장유물의 이해도를 높이는 방안의 하나로 유물과유적을 연계하는 현장체험 프로그램을 적극 활용할 필요가 있다. 그런 프로그램의 소재로 필자는 조선대학교 박물관이 20여 년간 조사해온 순천 월평유적군이 적절하다고 판단하고, 월평유적과 함께 송광천을 따라 분포하는 구석기유적들의 조사 내용과 의미 등에 기초하여 구석기인들의 자취가 잘 남아 있는 유적들을 탐방하는 ‘구석기인의 길’이란 프로그램을 구상해보았다. 유물과 유적을 연계한 현장체험 프로그램은 기존의 주입식교육이나 암기식교육의 단점을 보완하면서 체험학습, 자기주도 학습이 가능하므로 대학박물관의 전시와 사회교육의 한계를 극복하고 또 관람객과의 소통을 원활하게 하는 효과도 거둘 수 있다. 이를 통해 대학박물관의 활성화와 특성화를 도모할 수 있으며, 발굴조사 뒤 관심에서 멀어지는 유적들을 현장 점검할 수 있어 유적 보존에도 도움이 될것이다.

It’s not easy for the public to find out exact meaning of artifacts which are displayed at the University Museums. The primary cause is that the artifacts are apart from sites where they were found. It implies that displayed artifacts are actually separated and disconnected from their original archaeological context. Therefore, it is necessary for visitors to explore sites in connection with discovered artifacts through experience program. The Wolpyeong site cluster which located along the Songgwang stream is proper material for producing such experience program as it has been surveyed and researched for more than two decades since 1995 by Chosun University Museum. “Path of the Paleolithic man” which comprises seven courses is designed to experience Paleolithic life and culture by visiting sites on foot. The experience program could not only supplement shortcoming of the rote learning but also promote experience education and self-directed learning. Therefore it would be very effective to overcome the limits and shortages of exhibition and social education at University Museum. Furthermore, it will also contribute to conservation and well utilization of sites which had been excavated and researched by University Museum.
