A Case Study of Food Art Therapy for the Emotional Stability of the Elderly Exposed to Suicide

This study is an example of applying food art therapy to the elderly exposed to suicide. The purpose of this study is to find out the emotional stability and reduce depression through the practice of foot art therapies of 70 elderly women in M city, and implement therapy to improve adaptability to daily life with positive interpersonal life. To test the efficacy of the treatment, depression scale and interpersonal scale were administered. This study was a total of 21 sessions, from February 2017 to July 2017, for sessions in a welfare institution individual room for 50 minutes per session. To the results of the study, we analyzed the contents of each session and compared the results of BDI and interpersonal test. In the early days, we were met with high emotional instability and depression. In addition, she were exposed to suicide in the absence of interaction with their neighbors in daily life. She complained about difficulties in interpersonal relationships and did not want to participate in outside activities. Through the food art therapy, we were able to open the door of the mind gradually breaking of the framework which was trapped in the darkness, showing a change in attitudes toward the neighbor and acceptance of the neighbor and inviting to drink tea. In addition, negative thoughts could be changed more positively, accepting oneself and getting psychological presence of positive self. In the latter period, she talked about her children and family would be good. The results of this study are as follows: In the case of food art therapy, the client was depressed and the closed emotions were decreased. This program will be effective to carry out a mass food art therapy for more elderly clients.
