21세기 과학적 소양에 맞춘 예비교사를 위한진화 수업 프로그램 개발

The Development of an Evolution Education Program for Pre-service Biology Teachers based on Choi et al.(2011)’s 21st Century Scientific Literacy

Choi et al.(2011)은 21세기 시민을 위한 과학적 소양은 과학 관련 지식영역(content knowledge), 탐구와 문제해결능력 영역(habits of mind), 인성과 가치관영역(character and values), 과학의 특성에 대한 이해영역(science as human endeavor), 자기점검능력(metacognition and self-direction)의 5가지 항목으로 구성될 것을 제안하였다. 이 연구는 Choi et al.(2011)이 제안한 21세기 과학적 소양에 따라 예비과학교사를 위한 진화 수업을 개발하였다. 개발된 진화 수업은 진화 이론의 학습과 진화 이론과 관련된 사회 문제를 해결하는데 초점을 두었다. 개발된 수업은 우리 생활과 관련성이 있는 내성 세균(의학), 물고기의 크기 축소(어업), 농약 저항성 잡초(농업)에 관한 3개 모듈을 포함한다. 각 모듈은 뉴스 보기, 생각해보기, 탐구 해보기, 공부하기, 자신의 생각과 비교하기, 사회 문제 해결하기, 사회 운동하기, 과학 이야기, 뉴스 기사 작성하기의 9개 활동으로 구성되어있다. 개발된 수업은 5명의 생물교육전문가와 현장교사에 의하여 검토되었으며 4명의 생물예비교사에게 투입하여 수업의 효용성을 확인하였다. 개발된 수업에 대한 재미, 유익, 새로움의 관점에서 만족스러웠으며 생물예비교사들을 대상으로 하는 수업으로서 가치가 있음을 확인하였다.

Choi et al.(2011) suggested five dimensions of content knowledge, habits of mind, character and values, science as a human endeavor, and metacognition, and self-direction as a framework for 21st century scientific literacy. This study aimed to develop a new learning program for evolution based on Choi et al.’s suggestion. The new learning program for evolution was focused on the content knowledge of evolution and socio-scientific issues relating to evolution. The topics of the new program were antibiotic-resistant bacteria, evolutionary downsizing of large fish, and pesticide-resistant weeds. The program was composed of nine activities including watching news, thinking about it, doing inquiry, studying, comparing with initial idea, solving social problem, doing social movements, science story, and making science news. The new program was evaluated by five biology education experts and in-service biology teachers. We investigated the impact of a new program on 4 pre-service biology teachers’ knowledge and acceptance of evolution by employing pre- and post-test and semi-constructed interview. The results showed that the new program could be effectively used for learning evolution. The evaluators and participants of the program responded that the new program was valuable in terms of interest, instructiveness, and novelty.
