Whilst as individuals we may understand the need for, and the benefits of, standards in our everyday lives the same cannot be saidfor the business community. In fact, the business effects of standards that are being adopted and implemented throughout various sectors of the business community are not well known. Potentially the prime issue facing standardization in companies is that of demonstrating the positive organizational value of effectively and appropriately implemented standards to the company’s total success. This study provides empirical evidence that the organizational deployment of the ISO/IEC 27002 Information Security standard by a financial services enterprise has had a significant positive impact, not only on its overall Information Security effectiveness but also its business operation. This research contributes to the very limited number of empirical studies on Information Security and shows those business benefits which have been achieved.
