통번역 서비스 절차의 표준화에 관한 연구

A Study on the Standardization of Procedures for Interpretation & Translation

글로벌 시대에 다양한 분야에서 통번역 서비스가 요구되고 있다. 하지만 우리나라는 아직 통번역 서비스를 제공하는데 있어서 표준화된 서비스 절차가 체계화되어 있지 않으며 이러한 통번역 서비스 표준화의 부재는 다양한 분야에서 통번역의 오류문제에 영향을 미치고 있다. 이 논문의 목적은 통번역에서 나타나는 오류를 살펴보고, 통번역 서비스가 어떻게 영향을 미치는지 분석하는 것이다. 통번역 서비스의 질 확보를 위해서, 통번역 서비스 표준화의 필요성과 주요 구성요소를 살펴보고, 표준화를 위한 방향과 지침을 연구하였다. 우선, 일상생활, 문학작품, 통상 협정서 등의 통번역 오류에서 나타나는 문제점을 파악하였고, 둘째, 외국의 통번역 서비스 표준화 사례를 통해서 표준화에 요구되는 핵심요소를 파악하였다. 셋째, 우리나라의 상황에서 요구되는 표준화의 중요 요소와 방향을 검토하고, 예상되는 효과를 논의하였다. 통번역 오류와 외국의 표준화 사례에 대한 분석을 통해서, 통번역 서비스 표준화를 위해서 구체적으로 분야에 따른 번역가의 전문성, 번역절차와 고객, 번역서비스 제공자 간의 관계 등에 대한 표준화가 필요하다는 것과 이러한 표준을 기반으로 한 적합성 평가와 인증단계가 실시되어야 함을 제시하였다.

In this global world, interpretation and translation services are needed in various areas. However, there are neither systematized nor standardized interpretation and translation services in Korea yet. Many mistakes and errors in translation may be caused by the absence of such standardized services. The purpose of this paper is to gain an understanding of those errors in various areas, and analyze the problems caused by the absence of standardized services. Then, to improve the quality of the interpretation and translation services, the necessity and main elements for the standards were reviewed. Also, the directions and guidelines for interpretation and translation standardization were studied. First of all, translation errors from everyday life, literature, and (FTA) agreements were reviewed. Secondly, the core elements found in foreign translation or interpretation service standards (i.e., EU, Canada, and the States) were analyzed. Finally, the author tried to suggest the essential factors and directions for the development of appropriate standardization in Korea, and also discussed the expected effects. Through the analysis of foreign standardized translation services and the observation of translation errors in Korea, the author suggests several improvements that must be made. Those improvements include the standardization of translators’ and interpreters’ professionalism in key areas, standardization of translation procedures, and the development of legal and ethical standards that shape (or define) the relationship between clients and providers of such services. Also, the author suggests that we should provide a conformity of assessment as well as standardized certification for those providing interpreting and translation services.
