This study was undertaken to investigate the impact of school nurses assistant work on the job stress in Chonbuk Province. This study was done in August, 2000 to the subjects of 251 school nurses working at the primary, junior and senior high schools. The data collected were analyzed by ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient using the SAS program. The results were summarized as follows: 1. General characteristics of the school nurses were 35.3 years old, married (78.5%), and mostly working at the primary school (81.5%) for 9.7 years. 2. The assistant work of school nurses was the replacement-teaching (60.7%), the arrangement of meeting room for teachers (47.8%), the display of schools (41.5%), the telephonists (41.9%), and the cashier (19.4%). The works not wanted to do by school nurses were the cashier (85.5%), the telephonists (78.8%) and the receptionist (75.8%). 3. The mean score of job satisfaction and its stress of school nurses was 3.09 and 3.01 , respectively. 4. The groups of more than 40 year-old (F=8.96, p=.001), married (t=-3.11 , p=.002) and more than 20 year-working period (F=8.14, p=.001) showed higher scores in job satisfaction than those of less than 40 year-old, unmarried and less than 20 year-working period respectively 5, The groups of less than 40 year-old (F =2.79 , p=.041), and with master degree (F=2.82 p=.040) showed higher scores in job stress than those of more than 40year-old and with bachelor degree, respectively. 6. The groups with assistant jobs showed lower score of job satisfaction than those without assistant jobs. Consequently the groups with assistant jobs showed higher job stress than those without assistant jobs. The correlation between the assistant work accomplishment and the job stress was positively significant (r= .130, p=.044). The present work suggested strongly that the job satisfaction of school nurses would be achieved by reducing the job stress factors. In addition, institutional reforms and/or improvement in school systems, such as the removal of assistant works for school nurses and the strengthening of health education and health management work sho니Id be considered for school nurses.
