나바이스(D. Narvaez)의 ‘도덕적 전문성’ 개념에 대한 개인내적·사회적 측면 비판 및 제언

Personal and Social Criticism and Suggestion to the Concept of the Moral Expertise’ by Darcia Narvaez

본 연구는 도덕 심리학자 D. Narvaez의 ‘도덕적 전문성’ 개념을 비판적으로 검토하고 제언하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 특히 Narvaez가 차용한 심리학적 전문성 개념을 그녀가 제시하는 도덕적 전문성 개념과 비교하여 분석한다. 분석은 개인내적·사회적 측면으로 구분되며, 개인내적 측면에서는 1)전문성의 영역 특수성과 2)전문성 발현의 생물학적 특징을 축으로 삼는다. 사회적 측면에서는 도덕 교육을 위한 도덕적 전문성 개념의 생태학적 타당도를 검토하기 위해 도덕적 전문성을 갖춘 도덕 전문가로 인정받을 수 있을 만 한 집단과 타 집단의 행동 양상을 비교한다. 이를 위해 1)직업 종교인들과 타 직업군의 범죄율을 비교하고, 이어 2)윤리학 분야 학자들과 타 전공 학자들의 도덕적 행동 양상을 함께 살펴본다. 연구는 이와 같은 분석에 대한 Narvaez의 응답과 연구자의 재검토를 포함하고 있으며, 이러한 비판적 이해를 통해 결국 D. Narvaez의 도덕적 전문성 개념이 통합적인 도덕 교육 담론으로 교육 현장에 적용되기에 앞서 이론적·실제적 측면의 수정·보완이 필요함을 제안한다. 더불어 도덕적 전문성 개념은 도덕적 감식안(Connoisseurship)과 같은 개념으로 대체되어야 함 역시 시사한다.

This study aims to critically examine and suggest the concept of moral expertise of moral psychologist D. Narvaez. To this end, I analyze the concept of psychological expertise borrowed from Narvaez, in particular, by comparing her concept of moral expertise. The analysis is divided into individual internal and social aspects. In the individual internal aspect, the axis focuses on 1) area specificity of expertise and 2) biological characteristics of expertise. On the social side, we compare the behavioral patterns of groups and other groups that can be recognized as moral experts with moral expertise to examine the ecological validity of the moral expertise concept for moral education. To do this, we compare 1) crime rates among professed religious people and other occupational groups, and 2) examine moral behavior patterns of ethics researchers and other major researchers. This study includes narvaez s response to the analysis and the researcher s review. In the end, D. Narvaez s concept of moral expertise needs to be revised and supplemented before it is applied to the educational field as an integrated moral education discourse. And Suggesting that the concept should be replaced ‘Moral Connoisseurship’.
