What is the Core Elements of Social Innovation?

경제ㆍ산업분야 및 사회구조의 빠른 변화에 따른 다양한 사회문제의 새로운 문제해결 방식으로 사회혁신이 대두되기 시작하였다. 최근 다양한 영역에서 사회혁신의 필요성과 중요성이 언급돼 있지만 명확한 개념에 대한 경험적 탐색 연구는 부재한 상황이다. 이에 본 연구는 현장전문가이면서 학위과정에 있는 참여자들의 포커스 그룹인터뷰를 통해 사회혁신 구성요소로 10개의 상위범주와 33개의 세부요소를 도출하였다. 본 연구가 주는 시사점으로 명확한 사회미션의 기본토양에서 문제진단력과 다양성·포용성이 중요함을 인식하고, 사회혁신의 실천과 연구의 방향성을 제고해야 함을 제시하였다. 사회혁신이 시대적 유행으로 그치지 않기 위해 견고한 지식체계 및 지속적인 자기혁신이 요구되므로 체계적인 전문교육기관을 통한 사회혁신가 양성프로그램이 개발되어야 한다는 점을 제안하였다. 동시에, 사회혁신이 사회 곳곳에 확산되기 위한 제도적/환경적 지지기반이 마련되어야 할 것이다.

While the adoption of Social Innovation in the various sections has fueled a rapidly expanding the interest related to practical and scholar issues, social innovation have not yet been completely defined. This paper traces the core elements of social innovation across disciplines by conducting focus group interview, which consists of 14 participants who onsite specialists with the academic degrees. Final core elements of social innovation was constituted 10 categories and 33 sub-indicators. The results suggest that the direction of practice and scholarship should be improved taking into account the importance of obvious social missions, diagnostic powers of social issues, diversity and inclusion. Also, Social Innovator’s training courses need to be developed grounding on scientific higher education for the solid knowledge system and continuous self-innovation. Finally, the institutional and environmental supports are required to expanding social innovation across communities everywhere.
