A study on the entrance motives, the aptitude for teaching job, and the status of preparing National Test for a new teacher of teacher s college students

This study was conducted with teacher s college students at a private university located in Chunbuk province. The research focus was on the initial motive for why the students choose teacher s college and decide to become a teacher based on the gender and university admission types. Also, it was examined the status of preparing National Test for a new teacher. The types of entrance motives were: (a) intrinsic motive, (b) tendency of acquiescing in the reality, (c) persuasion of the circumstance. And the types of aptitude for teaching job were: (a) appropriateness of aptitude, (b) altruistic motive, (c) job security, (d) persuasion of the circumstance. The major results of this study were summarized as follows. First, the intrinsic motive played a more important role than tendency of acquiescing in the reality and persuasion of the circumstance in their choice teacher s college. On the other hand, persuasion of the circumstance was more highly valued by female than male. Second, the appropriateness of aptitude had a more dominant role than altruistic motive, job security, and persuasion of the circumstance in their decision to become a teacher. On the other hand, job security was more highly valued by those who were accepted through regular admission than rolling admission. Finally, theoretical and practical implications of these findings were discussed.
