The purpose of this study is to investigate the literature ans previous studies related to mentoring in music education and suggest the way of adapting mentoring to secondary pre-service music teacher’s education. The contents of this study are summarized as follows. First of all, various literature related to expertise of secondary pre-service music teacher were reviewed and analyzed. Second, philosophical grounds, definitions, and the meaning of mentoring were examined generally. Then, the previous studies dealing with mentoring generally were analyzed. The definition of mentoring in terms of music education was also mentioned. Finally, based on the analysis of previous studies, a few conclusions and suggestions were followed. As a result of the study, the need of mentoring program to promote expertise of secondary pre-service music teacher was mentioned. Then quantitative research relating to mentoring in music education was also need.
