영어교육에 있어 의사소통 능력 배양은 학습의 중심에 자리 잡고 있다. 의사소통 능력은 단순 한 언어 구조의 이해를 넘어서 언어 사용에 대한 이해를 포함한다. 언어를 사용하는 사람들을 둘러싼 환경 및 사회적 배경이 언어 사용에 결정적인 영향을 미치게 된다. 화용, 맥락에 대한 연구가 진행되면서 제 2언어 교육에서도 목표 언어의 규칙체계를 익혀 규칙에 따른 오류 없는 발화를 하는 것을 목표로 하던 관점에서 벗어나 화용적 ? 사회문화적 규칙까지 습득하여 온전한 의사소통 능력을 갖추는 것을 목표로 삼게 되었다. 제 2언어 학습자로서 목표어를 대화 장면과 대화 상대 에 맞게 목표어를 적절히 사용하는 온전한 의사소통 능력을 갖추는 것을 의미한다. 화행과 공손법은 담화 능력을 결정짓는 언어 사용의 중요한 요인이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 중학교 영어 교과서에서 다뤄지고 있는 담화, 화용적 능력을 화행과 공손법을 중심으로 살펴보았다.
Communicative competence is a key word in English teaching and learning. This is because language teaching goes beyond the simple linguistic levels such as phonological, syntactic semantic, etc. It is emphasized that socio-linguistic factors play an important role in language learning and teaching. Contextual meaning helps students improve their communicative ability and cross-cultural understanding. This explain why various socio-cultural factors have taken into consideration in the area of second language acquisition. The purpose of this study is to investigate how pragmatic/discourse functions are dealt with in the middle school text books. The main focus goes on the two things: speech act and politeness.
