언어 영역을 중심으로 한 유아 문해 교육 환경 연구

Study on literacy environments for early childhood education focusing on literacy centers

본 연구는 유아교육기관의 언어 영역을 중심으로 유아의 문해 교육을 위한 교육 환경의 실태를 파악하고 유아를 위한 문해 환경 마련을 위한 시사점을 찾는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 전국의 유치원과 어린이집에 근무하고 있는 교사 341명을 대상으로 질문지를 통하여 문해 교육 환경을 언어 영역의 구성과 설비, 교구·교재, 활동지, 이야기 자료, 교사제작 자료, 문구류로 구분하여 자료를 수집하였다. 연구결과, 대부분의 유아교육기관에서는 타 영역과 분리된 언어 영역에서 자모음 카드, 글자 카드, 손인형, 자모음관련 활동지와 책만들기 활동지, 교사가 직접 제작한 이름 카드 등을 제공하여 유아의 문해 발달을 돕고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 담당 학급 연령에 따라 문해 교육을 위한 언어영역의 설비 및 교구·교재 구성에 차이가 있는지 알아본 결과 만 3세 학급보다 만 4세 이상의 학급에서 다양한 설비, 교구·교재, 활동지, 종이류, 쓰기도구류를 제공하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 연령 및 문해 발달 수준에 적합한 교육을 제공하기 위해서는 실태 조사에 근거한 교육과정 제고와 이에 따른 내용 교구·교재 기준 마련이 필요함을 시사한다.

This study is to investigate the status of literacy environments for early childhood education focusing on the language centers, and to find suggestions for preparing proper literacy environments for young children. Subjects were 341 early childhood teachers who worked at kindergartens and childcare centers. The survey was conducted regarding composition and facilities, educational matarials, matarials for storytelling, teacher-made materials, and stationaries. The results are as follows: most early childhood institutions provided korean alphabet cards, cards with words, hand puppets, worksheets related to korean alphabet and to book making, and teacher-made cards with names in order to help children developing literacy. In addition, there was difference between teachers who teach 3-year-olds children and teachers who teach 4 and 5-year olds children or mixed-aged in facilities, educational materials, worksheets, and stationaries for literacy education. The results suggest to revise national level curriculum regarding literacy education based on actual developing levels of children and to develop standards of educational materials for literacy education based on the current status.
