엘리야의 우울증과 기독교상담의 함의 - 빅터프랭클의 로고테라피 중심으로 -

Elijah’s Depression and Implications of Christian Counseling: focused on Viktor Frankl’s Logotherapy

본 연구는 엘리야 선지자의 로뎀나무 아래의 우울증 경험을 심리학적 관점으로 해석하여 기독교 상담과의 함의를 연구하는데 의의가 있다. 선행연구에는 엘리야의 우울증에 대하여 “인지적 왜곡”, “반응성 우울증”, “아드레날린 우울증”, “소진”, “의미상실”로 해석하고 있다. 본 연구는 엘리야의 우울증 경험과 회복되는 과정에서의 하나님의 치유방법을 빅터프랭크의 로고테라피 관점과 연결하여 적용하였다. 로고테라피의 주요개념은 ‘실존적 좌절’, ‘실존적 공허’, ‘누제닉 신경증’, ‘역설적 의도’, ‘삶의 의미’로 설명할 수 있다. 로고테라피의 핵심은 어떤 고통스러운 상황가운데 있더라도 목적의식이 있다면 고통 속에서도 의미를 발견할 수 있다는 것이다. 마지막으로 현대 기독교인과 목회자의 우울에 대한 시사점을 검토하고 기독교 상담학적으로 어떤 의미가 있는지 고찰하고자 한다. 요약하면 엘리야의 우울증과 회복과정에 대해 로고테라피 관점으로 조명해 보고 기독교상담의 함의를 고찰하고자 한다.

The study has significance that it has interpreted psychologically prophet Elijah’s depression under a juniper tree and considered the implications of Christian counseling. Previous researchers have interpreted Elijah’s depression as “cognitive distortion,” “reactive depression,” “adrenaline depression,” “exhaustion,” or “meaninglessness.” In this study, a perspective of Logotherapy has been applied to God’s therapeutic method in the process of recovering Elijah’s depression. The main concepts of Logotherapy are ‘existential frustration,’ ‘existential emptiness,’ ‘noogenic neurosis,’ ‘paradoxical intension,’ and ‘meaning of life.’ The core of Logotherapy is that whatever situations individuals are in, those who have a sense of purpose are able to find meaning even in suffering. Lastly, the study has reviewed the implications of modern Christians and pastors’ depression and considered what they mean in Christian counseling. In short, the study was to examine Elijah’s depression and recovery process in the light of a perspective of Logotherapy and consider the implications of Christian counseling.
