2015 교육과정에 근거한 초등영어 4학년 교과서 문화 분석 -인종, 성, 다문화 요소를 중심으로-

Cultural Analysis of 4th-grade Elementary English Textbooks Based on 2015 National Curriculum

오늘날 국제적 인식과 문화적 인식은 초등학교에서의 외국어 교육을 위한 가장 기본적이고도 필수불가결한 요소들이다. 이러한 흐름은 2015 개정 초등영어과 교육과정의 핵심역량 중 공동체 역량에 포함되어 있는데, 이는 배려와 관용, 대인관계 능력, 문화 정체성, 그리고 언어 및 문화적 다양성에 대한 이해 및 포용능력을 의미한다. 따라서 2015 개정 교육과정에서의 초등영어교육의 목표는 이전보다 더 문화교육의 중요성이 강조 되었고, 이는 효과적인 언어학습을 촉진시키기 위해 영어지도의 범위가 초등학생들의 자국문화와 목표 언어권의 문화를 이해하고 수용하는 것 뿐 만 아니라 세계 여러 다른 나라들의 다양한 문화까지도 받아들이고 우리 고유의 문화를 영어로 소개할 수 있는 범위까지 확대되었음을 의미한다. 이에 본 연구의 목적은 초등영어교육에서의 이러한 시대적 흐름을 기반으로 하여 만들어진 2015 개정 교육과정 기반 초등학교 4학년 영어 교재 중 초등영어교육 현장에서 가장 많이 사용하고 있는 3종의 교과서 문화내용을 인종, 성, 그리고 다문화적 요소를 중심으로 분류하여 분석하는 것이다.

Global and cultural cognitions are the essential elements for teaching of foreign languages in elementary school. 2015 reviced elementary English national curriculum are based on four key competencies: English communicative competence, self-managing competence, community competence, knowledge-information competence. Among them, this paper is related to the community competence, and the 2015 National English Revision to the Elementary English Textbook are considered the necessity of English cultural instruction in English language classrooms to accelerate the effective learning between the students’ culture and those of the target language. The purpose of this study is to analyse the content of the culture in 4th grade English textbooks based on 2015 Revised National Curriculum in order to compare the strengths and features of 3 textbooks recently approved. The criteria for the culture content of English textbooks have been specified as 3 components and all the three books published in 2015 were analyzed and examined from various angles such as race, gender, and multi-cultural elements.
