만 5세 유아의 협동적 수학활동과 개별적 수학활동이 수학문제해결력, 친사회적행동, 학습행동에 미치는 효과 비교

The Effects of Collaborative and Individual Math Activities on Young Children s Math Problem Solving Skills, Prosocial Behaviors and Learning Behaviors

본 연구의 목적은 협동적 수학활동과 개별적 수학활동이 유아의 수학문제해결력과 친사회적행동, 학습행동에 미치는 효과의 차이를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울시 소재 B유치원에 재원중인 만 5세반 40명을 선정하여 실험집단과 비교집단으로 구성하였다. 두 집단 모두 분류, 패턴, 수, 측정, 도형, 통계의 6개의 주제와 관련된 수학 활동을 2개씩 12회기 진행하였다. 협동적 수학활동은 실험집단에서 4-5명의 모둠을 구성하여 진행하였고, 개별적 수학활동은 비교집단에서 교사와 일대일로 진행하였다. 두 집단 모두 사전검사와 사후검사에서 수학문제해결력 검사, 친사회적행동 검사, 학습행동검사를 실시하였다. 두 수학활동의 효과의 차이를 알아보기 위해 사전검사를 공변인으로 한 공분산분석(ANCOVA)을 실시하였다. 연구결과 협동적 수학활동이 개별적 수학활동에 비해 유아의 수학문제해결력, 친사회적행동, 학습행동에 긍정적 효과를 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 협동적 수학활동의 교육적 가치를 보여주고 구체적인 교육적 적용 방향을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of cooperative math activities and individual math activities on children s mathematical problem solving skills, prosocial behaviors, and learning behaviors. For this purpose, 40 children who attended B kindergarten in Seoul city were selected as experimental group (20 children) and comparative group (20 children). For both groups, 12 math activities were conducted, related to the six themes of classification, pattern, number concept, measurement, figure and statistics. Collaborative math activities were conducted in small groups of 4-5 students in the experimental group and individual math activities were conducted one-on-one with the teacher in the comparative group. The pre-test and post-test were performed in both groups with math problem solving skill test, prosocial behavior test, and learning behavior test. The covariance analysis (ANCOVA) was conducted to examine the difference in the effect of the two math activities. The results of this study showed that collaborative math activities had a positive effect on mathematical problem solving skills, prosocial behaviors, and learning behaviors, compared to those of individual math activities. These results signify the educational value of collaborative math activities. This study provides the specific guides and methods to apply collaborative activities in early childhood education environments.
