교양전공 교육과정 개발 연구: 경남대학교 사례를 중심으로

A Study on Major Curriculum of General Education: Focusing on Kyungnam University

본 연구는 교양 영역을 전공화시킴으로써 더욱 체계적인 교과과정을 마련하는데 그 목적을 두고 있다. 4차 산업혁명시대의 도래를 앞두고 학생들은 사회인으로서 토대가 되는 올바른 인성교육과 교양교육의 정립이 필요하다. 본 연구에서 고찰한 교양전공은 인간이해와 가치판단력, 사회이해와 시민정신, 과학과 기술의 이해와 융복합 사고능력, 심미적 공감능력이라는 4가지 영역으로부터 복수전공과 부전공을 마련하는데 역점을 두고 있다. 사실 경남대학교의 교양교과 과정은 기초교육, 교양필수, 교양선택, 전공기초로 구분하여 학생들이 적절한 교양교육을 배양할 기회를 갖지 못하였다. 교양교육은 단순히 전공수업의 기초과정을 배양하는 창구 역할을 수행해 왔다. 하지만 학과의 전공이 직업을 위한 교육이라면 교양은 자유인으로서 역량을 배양하는데 그 가치를 부여하고 있다. 이러한 현실을 반영하듯 교양교육은 단순히 학과 전공 수업을 위한 보조적 단계에서 벗어나 독립된 전공과정으로서 역량을 개발할 필요성을 지닌다. 따라서 본 연구는 기존의 교양교과 과정을 중심으로 교양전공의 필요성과 그 배경을 제시하는데 의의를 두고 있다.

The purpose of this study is to provide more systematic curriculum by specializing the liberal arts area. As the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution begins, however, students need to establish the right personality education and liberal arts education that form the foundation of society. The major of liberal arts examined in this study is emphasizing the preparation of double and minor major from the four areas: human understanding and value judgment, social understanding and citizen spirit, understanding of science and technology and convergent thinking, and aesthetic empathy ability. The curriculum at Kyungnam University is divided into basic education, compulsory/optional liberal arts subjects, and basic majors, which deprive students of opportunities to take proper liberal arts education. In other words, the liberal arts education has merely played a role as a window to cultivate the basic course of major studies. However, while the majors of the department are education for the profession, the liberal arts give value to cultivate competence as a freeman. Reflecting this reality, the liberal arts education needs to develop its capacity as an independent major course. Therefore, this study suggests the necessity of liberal arts major in the liberal arts curriculum.
