The Effects of Emotion-Focused Story Discussion Activities and Cooperative Game Activities using Traditional Fairy Tale on Young Children’s Emotional Intelligence

The purpose of this study is to develop emotion-centered activity programs using traditional fairy tales to improve the emotional intelligence of infants and to verify their effects. For this purpose, 30 children aged 5 years in care centers in Daegu area were sampled. Among them, 15 children in the experiment group conducted emotional activity program for 8 weeks for 2 times a week. The remaining fifteen children performed general reading activities. The emotion-centered activity program using traditional fairy tales consisted of emotion-focused story discussion activities and cooperative game activity in consideration of age-appropriate Nuri process elements. The results of pre-test and post-test were analyzed through Univariate Covariance Analysis(ANCOVA). As a result of the analysis, emotion-focused story discussion activities and cooperative game activities using traditional fairy tales improved the self-emotional awareness and expressive ability, emotional control and impulse suppressing ability, and emotional awareness and consideration ability of 5 year old children.
