재한 외국인 유학생의 대학생활적응에 영향을 미치는 요인연구: 국내 학술지 중심으로

The Study on Factors Affecting Adjustment to College of Foreign Students in Korea

2004년 교육과학기술부의 Study Korea Project 외국인 유학생 유치 정책과 한류열풍의 영향으로 유학생들이 매년 증가하고 있지만 외국인 유학생들은 자국과 다른 한국의 대학생활에 적응하는 과정에서 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 재한 외국인 유학생의 대학생활적응에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 알아보고 이와 관련한 상담적 개입을 위한 기초자료를 제공하기 위해 국내 학술지에 게재된 논문 52편을 분석하였다. 그 결과 선행연구와 Baker & Siryk(1984)의 대학생활적응 모델을 토대로 대학생활적응에 영향을 미치는 하위개념을 인구사회학적 특성과 학업적 적응, 사회적 적응, 개인-정서적 적응과 대학 환경적 적응으로 나누었다. 각각의 하위개념별 요인을 살펴보면 인구사회학적 특성의 요인으로는 교육(학위)과정, 거주형태, 경제수준, 성별, 연령, 체류기간 등 9개가 도출되었다. 학업적 적응에서는 언어능력, 교육 시스템, 전공, 성적 등 11개의 요인을, 사회적 적응에서는 대인관게, 문화차이, 사회적지지, 의사소통 등 7개의 요인을 확인하였다. 그리고 개인-정서적 적응에서는 문화적응 스트레스, 문화적응 유형, 자아존중감, 심리적 안녕감 등 30개의 요인과 대학 환경적 적응에서의 대학의 인종(차별)풍토, 물리적 시설 및 환경과 행정 시스템 및 제도 등 3개의 요인이 외국인 유학생의 대학생활적에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 외국인 유학생들의 대학생활적응을 위한 상담 개입 프로그램의 필요성을 시사했다.

Objective: As the world is globalized, the number of foreign students in Korea has been rapidly increased since ‘Study Korea Project by the Ministry of Education in 2004. Meanwhile, foreign students have a hard time adapting to a new and different environment. So, the purpose of this study is to understand their difficulties and worries and to help them. Method: To see factors affecting adjustment to college, this study has been conducted by analyzing 52 researches published on domestic journals. Result: Adjustment to college is categorized into five sections. They are socio-demographic characteristics which has nine factors, academic adjustment which has eleven factors, social adjustment which has seven factors, personal-emotional adjustment which has thirty factors, and attachment which has three factors. Conclusion: Considering the result, it is necessary to come up with some counseling programs that help foreign students adapt to a new situation and accomplish their goals in Korea.
