This study was conducted to examine on the management of the hypertensive patients by community health practitioners in korea. The subjects were 62 hypertensives at thirty-one CHP posts in two county(=gun) in Chonnam province and the data was collected by 4 interviewers with structured questionaires from August 29 through September 10, 1994. The data was analyzed in the F-test, Pearson s correlation coefficient by nested design. The results of this study could be summarized as follows; 1. Sociodemographic & hypertension-related backgrounds of subjects In the sociodemographic backgrounds, female subjects were occupied 53.2%, the group of over 70 years was 40.3% and 77.4% lived with their spouses. Forty six point eight percent of the subjects were illiterate, 72.6% were covered with medical insurance and 17.7% were medical aids. Duration of illness was 1 -5yrs in 51.7% and 40.3% of the subjects visited clinic. 2. Content of support received from CHP activities Content of support received from CHP activities obtained were medication(90.3%), BP checking(80.6%) and referral(72.6% ). there were not significant differences degree of support received from CHP activities according to the subject s sociodemographic backgrounds. 3. Content of satisfaction with CHP activities Content of satisfaction with CHP activities obtained were easy to ask(93.5%),both deep concerned about people health and easy to contact(90.3%). Degree of satisfaction with CHP activities according to the subject s sociodemographic backgrounds were statistically significant differences lived with their spouses. 4. Degree of health knowledge for hypertension In the degree of health knowledge for hypertension, 85.5% of the subjects knew that hypertension is not always accompanied by severe Sx, 75.8% knew that stress may make worse hypertension, hypertension is to be controlled in one s whole life and low salt diet is essential for hypertension control. The subject s health knowledge for hypertension according to sociodemographic backgrounds was statistically significant differences male and lived with their spouses of subjects. 5. Degree of health practice for hypertension In the degree of health practice for hypertension, subjects practiced that items of restrict on coffee(79.0%), alcohol(69.3%) and cigarette(67.7%). Degree of health practice for hypertension according to sociodemographic backgrounds was statistically significant differences female subjects. In the degree of health practice for hypertension according to hypertension-related backgrounds of the subjects,route of detection by hypertension-related Sxs and visited clinic were statistically significant differences. 6. Correlation among the variables In the correlation among the variables, the relationship between satisfaction with CHP activities and health knowledge for hypertension was positive correlation. But the relationship between support received from CHP activities and satisfaction with CHP activities was negative correlation.
