열하일기, 박지원이 본 세상 - 2018 실학박물관 하반기 기획전 다시보기 -

YEOLHA-ILGI, The World with the View of Park Ji Won

본 글은 지난 2018년 8월1일부터 9월30일까지 실학박물관에서 진행된 하반기 기획전 ‘열하일기, 박지원이 본 세상’을 돌아보며 정리하였다. 전시의 예산 확인부터 마지막 개막식까지 하나의 전시가 진행되어가는 과정을 이번 전시를 예로 들며 각 단계별로 요약하였다. 「열하일기」는 1780년 연암 박지원이 청나라 건륭황제의 칠순을 맞이하여 축하사절로 가는 연행단에 자제군관 자격으로 함께하며 그곳에서 보고 느낀 점을 소설 형식으로 쓴 기행문이다. 당시 많은 사람들이 청나라를 오랑캐의 나라라며 무시하였지만 연암 박지원은 밤잠을 줄여가며 그곳의 선진 문물을 하나라도 더 보고 기록하고자 하였다. 이번 전시는 실학박물관에서 처음으로 시도된 어린이를 주요 대상으로 한 전시였다. 따라서 전시 기획단계에서 인근 초등학교 4학년 어린이 5명을 자문단으로 초빙하여 전시 설명문이나 체험내용을 함께 점검하며 눈높이를 맞췄다. 또한, 개막식 주요 손님으로 경기도꿈나무기자단 30여명을 초청하여 전시해설 뿐만 아니라 전시 전반에 관한 질의응답시간을 가졌다.

I wrote this article, looking back on the ‘YEOLHA-ILGI, THE WORLD WITH THE VIEW OF PARK JI WON’. This exhibition was held from August 1, 2018 to September 30, 2018, at the Silhak Museum. A brief introduction to the theme of this exhibition is as follows. The exhibition was based on the travel essay entitled 『Yeolha-Ilgi』(’The Jehol Diary’) written by Park Ji-won after he visited the Qing Dynasty(China) in 1780. In the past, Korea and China were diplomatically very close. In the 18th century, Joseon sent many envoys to the Qing Dynasty. When the envoys of Joseon visited the Qing Dynasty, they met people from many other countries as well as the Qing Dynasty, and they could experience their culture and customs. At that time, many intellectuals of Joseon depreciated ‘the Qing Dynasty as barbarians’. They thought they were better in every way. However, Park Ji-won insisted that we should see everything as it is and learn what we need to learn. After the trip Park Ji-won wrote『Yeolha-Ilgi』to make many people feel the same things he saw and heard in the Qing Dynasty. This article focuses on what to do according to the progress of the exhibition. I explained various things to be experienced in the process of exhibition with take this exhibition as an example. This is the first exhibition for children tried at the Museum. I invited five elementary students to the Advisory Committee at the exhibition planning stage. I checked the exhibition scenario and the exhibition progress with them.
