전업어머니의 모성 수행 경험에 관한 내러티브 탐구: ‘행위자성’을 중심으로

Narrative Inquiry about Maternal Experience of Full-Time Mothers: Focus on Agency

본 연구의 목적은 전업어머니들의 모성수행 경험을 행위자성을 중심으로 살펴보는 데 있었다. 이에 두 명의 전업어머니들을 참여자로 선정하여 내러티브 탐구를 수행하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전업어머니는 사회가 기대하는 모성을 어떻게 의미화 하느냐에 따라 다른 모성을 실천하고 있었다. 모성을 ‘비현실적 신화’로 의미화한 어머니는 현실적인 모성 실천을 추구하였다. 반면, ‘노력하면 가능한 것’으로 모성을 의미화한 어머니는 학습을 통해 모성을 실천하고자 하였다. 둘째, 모성을 수행하는 과정에서 전업어머니는 각각 ‘엄마처럼 살지 않기’라는 행위자성과 ‘좋은 엄마 학습하기’라는 행위자성을 드러냈다. 셋째, 두 전업어머니의 행위자성은 각각 ‘성찰’과 ‘좌절’의 과정을 통해 발현되었다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 교육적 시사점을 도출하고 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 하였다.

The purpose of this study is to explore how full-time mothers constitute different lives according to agency in the process of practicing motherhood. To do this, qualitative research using narrative inquiry was conducted. Two full-time mothers participated in the interview. The findings of the study can be summarized as follows. First, participants were practicing different motherhood depending on how they understood the socially institutionalized maternity. The mother who defined maternity as unrealistic myth pursued to practice realistic motherhood. On the other hand, the mother who defined motherhood it as what can be accomplished with effort tried to practice it through learning. Second, in the process of practicing motherhood, each participant showed different agency. One showed living unlike her mother to reject the socially institutionalized maternity, the other showed learning motherhood’ in order to be a perfect mother. Third, the agency that each participant showed was the result of reflection or frustration. Based on the results of the study, educational implications were suggested
