본고는 대학교의 공예교육을 중심으로 장인의 도제식 학습 효과에 대한 논의를 전개하였다. 이를 위해 공예의 사회·문화적인 가치가 교육현장에서 실천 가능할 수 있도록 그 현장사례를 살펴보았다. 우선 전통공예 장인의 도제식 공예기술 학습이 공예 관련 학과 대학생들의 공예실습과정에서 어떠한 영향을 주고 있는지 그에 대한 근거를 확보하기 위해 상황학습의 측면과 Dewey의 미적 경험론, 맥락적 학습유형에 의한 인지적·정의적 측면을 통합적 접근방법으로 다변적인 검토를 진행하였다. 그 결과, 첫째, 장인은 전통공예기술의 전문가이자 총체적인 경험자로서 그의 도제식 수업에서 금속공예기술에 대한 학습자의 인지적 측면과 정의적 측면의 통합적 성장을 촉진시켰다. 둘째, 장인의 도제식 학습은 학습자의 미적 경험에 의한 공예적 사고의 가치 확장과 실습과정의 창의적인 문제해결에 도움이 되었음을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 장인의 기술적 지식과 숙련된 기술 습득의 필요성에 대한 이론적 근거를 제시하는데 의의를 두며 향후, 본 논의들이 대학생 공예교육의 개선방향에 실천적 도움이 되어 사회문화적 발전에 기여하길 바란다. 더불어 장인의 공예에 대한 유형적 가치와 무형적 공예기술 학습방법이 교육적으로 활용될 수 있기를 기대해 본다.
This study discussed the effects of apprenticeship-style teaching by masters for crafts education at colleges. For this, I examined field cases to ensure that practical social & cultural values of crafts can be realized at education. In order to secure grounds that the apprenticeship-style teaching of crafts techniques by traditional crafts masters can foster creative talent among students in crafts-related departments, I carried out multilateral review on situated learning, Dewey’s aesthetic experience, and cognitive and defining aspects by contextual model of learning, based on a comprehensive approach. As a result, masters, who are experts in traditional crafts techniques with experience, facilitated learners’ growth in cognitive and defining aspects of metal crafts techniques through apprenticeship-style teaching. Second, apprenticeship-style teaching by masters contributed to the value expansion of traditional crafts techniques and crafts-oriented mindset of learners. I regard it as meaningful to offer theoretical basis for the need to acquire masters’technical knowledge and skilled techniques.
